From a Heart Condition to
a World Record
About James
James Benson-King is an endurance cyclist, keynote speaker, and Guinness World Record holder who has cycled more than 40,000km globally. His journey, from overcoming a childhood heart condition to becoming a Vice President at JP Morgan by 28, and now preparing to cycle across Antarctica, illustrates the power of resilience, strategic thinking, and daring to dream big.

Early Life: Building Resilience
Growing up with a heart condition meant sport was never guaranteed. Yet rugby taught James grit and teamwork, and American football instilled strategic thinking and relentless drive. These formative experiences shaped his passion for pushing limits and embracing challenges.

The Spark Of Inspiration
After graduating in Mathematics from the University of Bath, James travelled the world with just a backpack. He hiked Vietnam’s jungles, drove million-dollar tractors on an Australian farm, and, in Myanmar, met a cycle tourer whose stories sparked his own dream: cycling from Alaska to Argentina.

Preparing for the Journey
Back in the UK, James joined JP Morgan and rose rapidly to Vice President. At the same time, he was preparing his body and mind for the Alaska to Argentina journey. Cycling Land’s End to John O’Groats, completing a 4x4x48 running challenge, and a 330 km one-day ride around Dorset to test his endurance.

Alaska to Argentina: 32,000km of Lessons
In 2022 James set off from Alaska on a 32,000 km ride to Argentina. He cycled through extreme weather, remote terrain, and even 900 km with one leg, learning first-hand the power of perseverance and adaptability. Along the way he visited the Galápagos Islands and Antarctica, achieving his goal of all seven continents.

Sharing My Experiences
Today James delivers keynote talks that translate these adventures into actionable lessons for businesses and individuals. He speaks on cultivating resilience, achieving ambitious goals, and mastering mental well-being, equipping audiences with strategies to tackle their own challenges.

Looking Ahead
The spirit of adventure continues. James completes in ultra-endurance races and has recently set a Guinness World Record in cycling across India. He is currently preparing to become the first person to cycle across Antarctica in his project 'Pedal The Impossible'.
